Fearne's summer holiday reads

19th June 2012

On holiday I love nothing more than minimal bodily movement and muchos reading.

I got through four books this last week while I was away, and let me tell you they are a mixed bunch. I started off with The Hunger Games:

I know, I know, I’m a bit behind on this one, but I LOVED it! I haven't seen the film so had no idea what it was about until I started whizzing through it. How many brilliant comparisons to the slightly mad, extremist way TV is going in our very own country! Do I see the film now? Will it ruin it for me?

Next up was The Five People You Meet In Heaven...

... a beautifully written, moving book with wonderful characters. It’s short and sweet so definitely give it a go!

Then on to one of my favourite authors - Paulo Coelho. If you haven’t read any of his books, maybe start with one of his classics like The Alchemist, and then try out Eleven Minutes, which is a great story too. The one I chose for this trip was Aleph...

... a book that opened my mind to new concepts I hadn't even thought of. I can be quite a spiritual old hippy so this one got me thinking for days after I finished it!

Then just to finish on a sordid note, I read a Jackie Collins' book - Goddess of Vengeance...

... a good romp through LA, Vegas and NYC, with raunchy characters and sin thrown in for good measure. The perfect holiday read - although it may have cancelled out the good work the Paulo book had done!

If you're off on hols run to the book shop and get any of these!

Enjoy

  • Cheers Fearne. I'll pass this along to my book group....

PS gotta love a bit of JC on your summer hols!

  • Thanks for the recommendations F Cot. Don't know how u get through 4 in a week wow!

  • The five people you meet in heaven is one of the simplest but most beautiful books I've read. Mitch Albom is a truly brilliant author.

  • Don't watch the movie, I watched it after I had read the trilogy after a lot of pestering from my friends. Missed out so many crucial parts and was just irritating.
