Proud to be British
6th June 2012What a weekend! I think most people are still trying to wipe off the red, white and blue face paint, feeling proud to be British and sick of the sight of picnic food!?
The Queen is the most remarkable lady, and I think the UK threw a pretty good party to show her how much we love her.
I was honoured to be part of the TV celebrations. On the Sunday I spent the day in the rain (like millions of others) and covered the Jubilee Pageant aboard HMS Belfast.
I heard wonderful stories from some of the HMS Belfast veterans, who were funny, cheeky and so proud to have the Queen acknowledge their ship. I have had my make-up done in some weird places over the years, but in the bowels of a huge ship surrounded by the sleeping quarters is definitely up there!
Up on deck I wore my trusty red rain mac to keep me dry.
After a long bath and night in my nice warm pjs, I was up again on Monday morning to enjoy the BIG Jubilee Concert.
I got to interview my total hero Sir Elton John for the first time, and Sir Paul McCartney, who is always lovely to chat to.
Sir Cliff was also a lot of fun, and was wearing the grrooviest trainers of the day…
The atmosphere outside Buckingham Palace was electric, as everyone waved flags at the Queen Victoria Memorial at the foot of The Mall.
I thought Prince Charles's speech was wonderful, and the Queen looked incredible in a Royal black cape.
I also got my photo taken with one of the Coldstream Guards, who I was shocked to see smiling. They usually appear like statues but this one was very nice and chatty!
On Tuesday I was back outside the Palace, but this time in St James’s Park with my dear friend Jake Humphrey.
Suggs popped by…
... as well as Paloma Faith, Mark Foster, Kelly Sotherton and Angela Griffin.
I hope whatever you did this weekend was fun and that you’ve dried out from all the rain!
Love and Peace
